DANCE THIS WEEK: One of the greatest American companies, Alvin Ailey returns to Lincoln Center for a Special Presentation

Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, led by Artistic Director Robert Battle, will return to Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts for a two-week 15-performance engagement at the David H. Koch Theater June 8th – 19th.  Highlights of the first week include the June 8th Ailey Sprit Gala, and the world premieres of MacArthur “Genius” Kyle Abraham‘s Untitled America: Second Movement on June 9th and Mauro Bigonzetti‘s Deep on June 10th.

New Company members Ashley Mayeux and Solomon Dumas, and returning dancer Constance Stamatiou join in time for this diverse season of over a dozen works on five different programs. Other highlights during this 2-week exclusive engagement is the diversified repertory, the arrival of new talented dancers, special Saturday Family Matinee performances, and the “Ticket to Dance” an exclusive Ailey Extension free class offer.

Untitled America: Second Movement  World Premiere
In the second installment of this three-part suite, MacArthur “Genius” Kyle Abraham continues to explore the impact of incarceration on African-American families. The spiritual “No More My Lord” paired with contemporary music by Raime will underscore Abraham’s distinct and captivating movement style.

Mauro Bigonzetti, the newly appointed director of La Scala Ballet, returns to Ailey to create a world premiere set to the soulful music of Ibeyi, twin sisters who sing in English and Yoruba (“Ibeyi” is the Yoruba word for twins). Bigonzetti’s last work for the Company was 2008’s Festa Barocca. He is known for his seamless integration of classical and modern techniques, and has been praised for his fresh and inventive sensibility.

One of the World’s most beloved and popular Dance Theater companies, a highly demanded spectacle, Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater had recently performed fabulous programs in prestigious venues in the East Coast and around the country, and the Lincoln Center engagement will also perform some of the company’s original works, acclaimed pieces that continues to enchant audiences, such as “Revelations”, the Gospel-inspired choreography, and the poetic and sumptuous “Love Songs/Cry” as well as the sensual “A Case of You” and “Awakening”.
