In a phantasmagorical atmosphere, two mysteriously seductive sirens join a rock band as they fall enchanted for each other, during a celebratory performance by the ocean. Impressed with the marine women’s gifted condition, the musicians shelter them at the club-house, intending to benefit from the exotic creatures. Their mind-blowing sexually-charged looks and curves arise interest among the board members who run the stage, as well as the men and women surrounding the place.

Polish director Agnieszka Smoczynska’s debut is a picturesque horror dark comedy musical that exceeds with a frenetic frenzy throughout its Gothic and extremely gore narrative, captured on the delightful excitement of its utterly eccentric and absurdist characters, especially when they respond to the soundtrack with sync beats and choreographic dancing.

Once they begin to perform along with the band, conflicts intensify while their mutant flesh become increasingly observed and examined in a more vulnerable way; risks surge for all, and they are challenged by their own concerns of falling emotionally involved.

Sumptuously provoking, the film turns into a bizarre feast when the irresistibly gorgeous sirens realize they can’t keep up much longer holding on their instinctive famish. The unexpected twists demonstrated on the consequences of their up-close yet suspicious relations with the musicians, conduct the audience to a perspective on the other directions the film slightly point to, social and moral crisis, mystical and spiritual references, as well as a modern portrait on manipulation and disorderly love.

With its strangely horrifying beauty, cheerful eccentric characters, its offbeat and rhythmical aesthetic, and the witty of the scandalous bloodshed, THE LURE is as lusty and seductive as its femme fatales.
