Brooklyn-based troupe Ronald K. Brown and EVIDENCE, A Dance Company, returns to The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue, @19th Street) for their annual home season, this time marking their 40th anniversary as one of the richest and most expressive ambassadors of African and Afro-Cuban choreography.
From January 14 thru 19 the company will present three programs, including a special 25th anniversary presentation of their landmark work “Grace”, which taps on spirituality and liberation. Other pieces include “Serving Nia” which blends traditional dances from Senegal and Ivory Coast to modern dance, “High Life” inspired by the African American experience of migrating from rural living to the north, and the metaphorical “Order My Steps”. On view thru January 11, Life Dances On: Robert Frank in Dialogue is the artist’s first solo exhibition at MoMA, 11 West 53rd Street, between 5th and 6th Avenues. Exploring six decades of Frank’s career and coinciding with his birth centennial, it features over 200 works and recordings, including photography, film, and books. Tickets $30. The great voice that graced audiences with joyful tunes such as “Count on Me” from Waiting to Exhale, “Alabaster Box” and “Goodness of God”, Gospel star CeCe Winans is coming to NJPAC, 1 Center Street for a special Christmas gift concert this weekend. The annual New York Jewish Film Festival returns January 15-29 featuring a prestigious selection of the finest new Jewish-themed films. Co-presented by The Jewish Museum, the 34th edition will open with “Midas Man” by Joe Stepheson and Closing Night film is “Ain’t No Back to a Merry-Go-Round” by Ilana Trachtman.
Screening 8 feature films and 11 documentaries, a miniseries and 2 short films, NYJFF 2025’s other highlights include “Torah Tropical”, “The Glory of Life” and the psychological dramatic thriller “Of Dogs and Men” set during the Hamas attacks.
