The great Joao Carlos Martins is considered one of the most important conductors in the world. On Friday, May 9 at 7:30 pm this Brazilian landmark of classical music will perform his farewell concert at Carnegie Hall, 57th Street and 7th Avenue, Manhattan. Revered for his unique techniques on the piano, and incredible resistance, Martins will conduct marvelous pieces from Jobim, John Williams, Villa-Lobos, Bach, Morricone and Piazzolla. Exploring identity and resilience through diverse movements, A.I.M by Kyle Abraham returns to The Joyce Theater, 175 Eighth Avenue, 19th Street, with a ravishing program conceived by some of the most provocative masterminds of modern choreography. Performing April 22-27 the program features new works by Paul Singh, Andrea Miller, Rena Butler and Artistic Director Kyle Abraham in a first collaboration with composer Shelley Washington. Founder of the vibrant percussion group Mambembe NY, multi-talented Bahia-born NYC-based musician Everton Isidoro performs an original music set for the Opening of the 3rd NY Brazilian Film Series on Sunday, May 18 at 4:50pm at Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street, Manhattan. An established artist, Isidoro has performed at many venues such as The Town Hall, 92Y, The Newark Museum and others. For this occasion, he will present a tribute to composer Luiz Melodia as well as some of his original music. Considered one of America’s greatest rock stars, Melissa Etheridge is a 2-time Grammy winner with massive hits such as “I’m the Only One”, “Come to My Window” and “I Want to Come Over”. Her raw, confessional songs are the soundtrack of love for so many around the world. On Thursday April 24 she performs in Newark’s NJPAC at 7:30pm with an opening set by soul powerhouse Joss Stone, the voice behind “Super Duper Love” and “Fell in Love with a Boy” among other thrilling hits.
