A master of the nylon-string guitar since the age of 14, Gil Gutiérrez is celebrated for his artistry in merging classical, jazz, and flamenco music. He is regarded as one of Mexico’s finest musicians and has performed at many prestigious venues. He is returning to New York City for a 3-day engagement at Birdland Jazz Club (315 West 44th Street). Friday-Sunday, May 16-18 at 7:00 pm and 9:30 pm. The internationally renowned virtuoso guitarist and composer will be accompanied by David Rodriguez on bass and Robert Stern on violin. Mater of tap dancing, the great Ayodele Casel is returning to The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Ave, 19th Street) with the show “Ayodele Casel: THE REMIX”, a celebratory tribute to 1990s Tap Renaissance and its legacy. With this new work, and third at The Joyce, the artist reimagines some of her most personal choreographies, spanning two decades of career with influences on jazz, hip hop and the African diaspora. The program includes the 20th anniversary of “Audrey”, “Eddie’s Tap” and more.
