Featuring musicians<\/p>\n<p>from Rock &amp; Roll to Funk and Soul, the concert will trace the guitar genius\u2018 early foundations in R&amp;B he<\/p>\n<p>developed at the Theater, which would go on to inspire his rock innovations. For one night only,<\/p>\n<p>audiences will be invited to explore Hendrix\u2018s music from the mid-1960s through his posthumously<\/p>\n<p>released album, First Rays of the New Rising Sun.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25832\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-2.jpg\" alt=\"hendrix-in-harlem-2\" width=\"500\" height=\"500\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-2.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-2-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-2-300x300.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hendrix\u2018s star was born on the Apollo stage, when the young musician won Amateur Night in 1964.<\/p>\n<p>Following his win, Hendrix played numerous Harlem clubs and appeared at the Theater as the Isley<\/p>\n<p>Brothers\u2018 lead guitarist, and as sideman for Little Richard, King Curtis, and Wilson Pickett. The Jimi<\/p>\n<p>Hendrix Experience was formed soon thereafter in 1966, and the following year the band released its<\/p>\n<p>iconic album Are You Experienced. Hendrix in Harlem will feature selections from his lesser-known<\/p>\n<p>R&amp;B works, classic material from the Jimi Hendrix Experience, as well as highlights from his solo work.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25833\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-1.jpg\" alt=\"hendrix-in-harlem-1\" width=\"500\" height=\"363\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-1.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-1-300x218.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The Apollo will bring together a diverse group of performers to reimagine the late artist\u2018s celebrated body<\/p>\n<p>of work on the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Jimi Hendrix Experience and the eve of what<\/p>\n<p>would have been Hendrix\u2018s 74th birthday. The concert will be led by innovative rock pioneers Fishbone,<\/p>\n<p>who have performed and recorded a body of influential original music, fusing together eclectic sounds<\/p>\n<p>with a funk sensibility that draws upon the spirit of Hendrix\u2018s musical innovation. One of the most<\/p>\n<p>distinctive and acclaimed alternative rock bands of their generation, their work extends Hendrix\u2018s<\/p>\n<p>experimental approach. Fishbone will invite audiences along a survey of the great instrumentalist\u2018s<\/p>\n<p>oeuvre, by highlighting music from his earliest recordings with artists Isley Brothers, Don Covay and<\/p>\n<p>Little Richard as well as spotlight Hendrix\u2018s greatest hits.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-25834\" src=\"http:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-3.jpg\" alt=\"hendrix-in-harlem-3\" width=\"500\" height=\"333\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-3.jpg 500w, https:\/\/www.brazilianpress.com\/v1\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/11\/hendrix-in-harlem-3-300x200.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 500px) 100vw, 500px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Fishbone will be joined by special guests Ernie Isley, a personal friend of Hendrix, celebrated guitarist,<\/p>\n<p>and member of iconic pop group the Isley Brothers; singer, songwriter, and producer Nona Hendryx;<\/p>\n<p>poet and alternative hip hop artist Saul Williams; Liv Warfield, R&amp;B singer-songwriter and member of<\/p>\n<p>Prince\u2018s backing band The New Power Generation; Gary Lucas, founder of New York City rock band<\/p>\n<p>Gods and Monsters; and child star of Broadway\u2018s School of Rock, Brandon Niederauer \u201cTAZ\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u2015Jimi Hendrix found a home on our stage and throughout the Harlem community during his short but<\/p>\n<p>phenomenally influential career,\u2016 said Kamilah Forbes, the Apollo Theater\u2018s Executive Producer. \u2015His<\/p>\n<p>story epitomizes the importance of providing platforms for young, daring artists, which is central to the<\/p>\n<p>Apollo\u2018s mission today.
