Featuring new works by Fran\u00e7ois Ozon, Bertrand Bonello, Emmanuelle Bercot, Bruno Dumont, Christophe Honor\u00e9,Justine Triet, Rebecca Zlotowski,and more, with many of the filmmakers and talent in person<\/strong><\/p>\n Special events include aconversation withAgn\u00e8sVarda, panelsfocusing oninternational co-production and film as political intervention, a free screening ofan episode of the popularTV series Call My Agent<\/em>, and an exhibition from Arles<\/strong><\/p>\n New York, NY (February 1, 2017)<\/strong> \u2013 The Film Society of Lincoln Center and UniFrance announce the complete lineup forthe 22nd edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema, the celebrated annual series showcasingthe variety and vitality of contemporary French filmmaking, March 1-12.<\/p>\n The lineup features23diverse films, comprised of highlights frominternational festivalsand works by bothestablished favorites and talented newcomers, includingFran\u00e7ois Ozon\u2019s Lubitsch adaptation Frantz, <\/em>set after World War I;<\/em> Bertrand Bonello\u2019sNocturama,<\/em> a provocative exploration of a Paris terrorist attack carried out by young activists; Bruno Dumont\u2019s oddball slapstick detective story Slack Bay<\/em>, starring Juliette Binoche; Rebecca Zlotowski\u2019s visually arresting Planetarium<\/em>, with Natalie Portman as a touring psychic who catches the eye of a movie producer in 1930s Paris; Jean-St\u00e9phaneBron’sThe Paris Opera<\/em>, a documentary that peeks behind the scenes of the famed institution; and, for the first time, a Film Comment<\/em>magazine presentation within Rendez-Vous with French Cinema:Julia Ducournau\u2019s cannibal thriller Raw<\/em>, which titillated audiences at Toronto and Cannes.<\/strong><\/p>\n This year\u2019s programming, including the selected films, panels, and events, includesa special focus on the myriad of ways that French culture influences the arts in America, and vice-versa. The opening night selection is the North American premiere of \u00c9tienne Comar\u2019sDjango<\/em>, starring RedaKatebas the legendaryjazz musician and C\u00e9cile de France, and the Closing Night selection is the U.S. premiere ofJ\u00e9r\u00f4me Salle\u2019s The Odyssey,<\/em>with Lambert Wilson as explorer Jacques Cousteau and co-starring Audrey Tautou and Pierre Niney.<\/p>\n Selections in this year\u2019s edition of Rendez-Vous with French Cinema garnered an impressive 47 combined nominations for this year\u2019s C\u00e9sar Awards, which were announced last week. Best Film nominees includeFrantz <\/em>(eleven nominations), Slack Bay<\/em>(nine nominations), Nicole Garcia\u2019s Marion Cotillard showcase From the Land of the Moon<\/em> (eight nominations), and Justine Triet\u2019soffbeat rom-comIn Bed with Victoria<\/em>(five nominations). In addition, Emmanuelle Bercot\u2019s gripping real-life drama150 Milligrams<\/em>, withSidseBabett Knudsen as adoctor who challenged the French pharmaceutical industry,received nominations for adapted screenplay and Best Actress; up-and-coming filmmaker Stephanie de Giusto was nominated for Best First Film for The Dancer, <\/em>which stars Soko as modern dance icon Lo\u00efe Fuller and Lily-Rose Deppas Isadora Duncan (both nominated); and additional nominations went to S\u00e9bastien Marnier\u2019s Faultless<\/em>, KatellQuill\u00e9v\u00e9r\u00e9\u2019sHeal the Living<\/em>, S\u00f3lveigAnspach\u2019sThe Together Project<\/em>, and Salle\u2019sThe Odyssey<\/em>.<\/p>\n Filmmakers and talent who will be in attendance at this year\u2019s festival include, in alphabetical order: Emmanuelle Bercot, Bertrand Bonello, \u00c9tienne Comar, Caroline Deruas, St\u00e9phanie Di Giusto, Julia Ducournau, Marc Fitoussi, Marina Fo\u00efs, C\u00e9cile de France, Nicole Garcia, Christophe Honor\u00e9, RedaKateb,S\u00e9bastien Marnier,Fran\u00e7ois Ozon, Antonin Peretjatko, KatellQuill\u00e9v\u00e9r\u00e9, J\u00e9r\u00f4me Salle, Justin Taurand, Justine Triet, Martin Wheeler, and Rebecca Zlotowski.<\/p>\n The 2017 edition of Rendez-Vous also features a number of special events, headlined by an intimate discussion withAgn\u00e8sVarda on March 10 and a free public screening of an episode of the hit French TV series Call My Agent!<\/em>on March 11.Free talkswill includea panel on the many ways that film can function as political intervention;a conversation with French and American filmproducers about international co-producing; and the festival\u2019s annual panel featuring FrenchTouch musicians and film composers. A special exhibition imported from the esteemed photography festival Les Rencontresd\u2019Arleswill be on view in the Walter Reade Theater\u2019s Furman Gallery throughout the festival, displaying newly discovered color photos from behind the scenes of Fellini\u2019s black-and-white masterpiece8 1\/2,<\/em>shot by the late Paul Ronald and accompanied by recollections from the film\u2019s co-star AnoukAim\u00e9e.<\/p>\n Co-presentedwith UniFrance, Rendez-Vous with French Cinema demonstrates annuallythat the landscape of French cinema is as fertile, inspiring, and distinct as ever.Press screenings will take place February 15-22and will be announced in the coming weeks.
