The Joyce Theater continues to stream the digital presentation of the Paris Opera Ballet production of Rudolf Nureyev\u2019s Swan Lake through March 24 on JoyceStream.<\/p>\n

Originally choreographed by Rudolf Nureyev for Paris Opera Ballet in 1984, this irrefutably \u201cFreudian\u201d version of Swan Lake became an instant classic and crown jewel of the esteemed company\u2019s repertoire. Featuring Tchaikovsky\u2019s unparalleled ethereal score, Prince Siegfried\u2019s dreams mingle with reality in one of this beloved ballet by one of the world\u2019s preeminent ballet companies. The production features the Paris stars Mathieu Ganio and Amandine Albisson in the lead roles.<\/p>\n

\u2b50The Jewish Museum<\/strong><\/p>\n

Beginning April 2nd<\/sup>, The Jewish Museum will present the new exhibition \u201cModern Look:<\/p>\n

Photography and the American Magazine\u201d.<\/p>\n

The vast exhibition explores how photography, graphic design, and popular magazines converged to transform American visual culture from 1930 to 1960. The exhibition highlights a time period during which avant-garde strategies in photography and design reached the United States via European \u00e9migr\u00e9s, including Bauhaus artists forced out of Nazi Germany.<\/p>\n

The unmistakable aesthetic made popular by such magazines as Harper\u2019s Bazaar and Vogue \u2014 whose art directors, Alexey Brodovitch and Alexander Liberman, were immigrants and accomplished photographers \u2014 emerged from a distinctly American combination of innovation, inclusiveness, and pragmatism. Featuring over 150 works including photographs, layouts, and cover designs, the exhibition considers the connections and influences of designers and photographers such as Richard Avedon, Lillian Bassman, Lester Beall, Margaret Bourke-White, Louis Faurer, Robert Frank, William Klein, Lisette Model, Gordon Parks, Irving Penn, Cipe Pineles, and Paul Rand.<\/p>\n

The exhibition, organized by Mason Klein, Senior Curator, The Jewish Museum, will be on view from April 2 through July 11, 2021.<\/p>\n

Starting March 25th, Vito Schnabel Gallery will present Man Ray & Picabia, a historical exhibition that brings into dialogue seminal works by two early modern masters and legendary artists of the avant-garde.<\/p>\n

An intimate presentation, the exhibition focuses on only nine paintings that span the late 1920s to the mid-1950s \u2013 a careful selection designed to invite contemplation on the nature of artistic revolution. The canvases on view manifest Man Ray and Francis Picabia’s prodigious engagement with the medium of painting across multi-faceted careers marked by irreverence toward convention and an ability to cycle through the phases of modernism to arrive at exceptionally original results. This rare grouping includes paintings that have not been on display to the public for decades.
