There\u2019s no better escape from the urban noise than to catch the Ferry on South Street, Lower Manhattan and head to the Island that once resided the Governor and also place for the most secured prison in the country back a century ago. A great, accessible and spacious place for relaxing, hiking, cycling, sports and sightseeing, among other healthy activities, Governors Island hosts events and festivals throughout the season, most of them for free. This weekend visitors will be offered a variety of events such as the special live performance program \u201cJune Rites!\u201d featuring original music by renowned percussionist Mauro Refosco and Baiano instrumentalist and singer Gustavo Di Dalva, a forum discussing topics of social importance hosted by the American Indian Community House, and the indie-music, folk and pop showcase \u201cPorch Stomp\u201d reuniting various artists exploring the city throughout their music, poetry and performances. Families looking for a different eating experience can try the Picnic at Dinner Time provided by Team MP which includes a special boat ride departing from Tribeca. Presented by Joe\u2019s Pub, it will be a night of gospel, soul, R&amp;B and some country with songs from his debut album \u201cA Man Born Black\u201d, the Award-nominated soulful work exploring themes of maturity, loss, faith, and hope. The project is by #QueerTheBallet under the artistic direction of choreographer Adriana Pierce. Created, filmed and performed by an entire crew of queer artists, the project is a delicate and timely depiction on the development of a relationship, its intimacy and values. The exhibition explores themes related to the country\u2019s societal standards and political transformations.
