Capturing the importance and glamour of Korean traditions and adding contemporary elements of dance, music, art and fashion, Sejong Center’s “One Dance” will offer audiences a dazzling and unique experience during their stay at Lincoln Center’s David Koch Theater. Part of the Korean Arts Week, it brings 39 high skilled dancers from Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre, performing a reimagination of the royal ceremonial dance, honoring centuries of Korean culture and traditions. The always outrageous and multi-faceted actor and comedian Marlon Wayans brings his powerhouse comic skills to NJPAC, 1 Center Street, in Newark, on August 11th with two sets, at 7pm and 9:30pm. Wayans rose to fame from TV to the Big Screen, appearing in some of the hottest and most popular comedies since the 90’s. Born in a family of natural artists with a strong vein for comedy, Wayans can be seen in the NetFlix special Woke-ish, and the acclaimed Michael Jordan’s vehicle “Air” on Amazon. As part of Brasil SummerFest in partnership with Cinema Tropical, Momi (Astoria, Queens) will screen the timely documentary “Narcissus Off Duty” (“Narciso em Ferias”) from duo Ricardo Calil and Renato Terra. The film chronicles the dark experience of Brazilian singer and composer Caetano Veloso with exile during the dictatorship regime and is produced by Walter Salles. To celebrate the opening night of the long running Newark Black Film Festival, now in its 49th year, The Newark Museum of Art, 49 Washington Street, will host a Brazilian dancing party followed by the screening of “Medida Provisoria”, the racially-charged dramedy directed by Lazaro Ramos. The lineup includes DJ Luciano Julusi, renowned percussionist Marivaldo dos Santos who created a special performance for the occasion, and Dance Theatre of Harlem’s star Ingrid Silva for a special talk session.
