Showcasing the best in contemporary Italian cinema, Open Roads: New Italian Cinema is presented by Film at Lincoln Center and Cinecitt\u00e0. Screening films thru June 6th the Festival is turning 23 this year, and brings a fantastic line-up of prestigious films as well as many Q&A events with directors’ attendance. Among the must-see films, “Comandante” directed by Edoardo de Angelis on June 3rd, “Another End” starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Renate Reinsve on June 4th, “Adagio” a crime noir tale directed by Stefano Sollima and starring a team of giants including Pierfrancesco Favino, Valerio Mastandrea and Toni Servillo on June 5th and “Lubo” starring the great Franz Rogowski as Lubo Moser, an itinerant avenging artist screening twice, on June 1st and 6th. @The Town Hall<\/strong><\/p>\n

On Friday, June 7th, the historical Times Square-located music venue The Town Hall (123 West 43rd Street) will host a night of giants of the strings including two renowned Brazilian artists. “Brazil String Theory” will present a mesmerizing and thrilling musical night of innovative African-Cuban-Brazilian-American jazz featuring the extraordinary and multi-Grammy winner pianist, bandleader and composer Arturo O’Farrill, the fantastic mandolinist Hamilton de Holanda who performed with Wynton Marsalis and the Jazz at Lincoln Center band and phenomenal guitarist Yamandu Costa, a Grammy winner player who blends Brazilian music to rhythms from Uruguay and Argentina, creating a unique combination of bossa nova, jazz, tango, choro, samba, milonga and chamame. The show will feature compositions from each principal artist, in some cases with new arrangements for O\u2019Farrill\u2019s 18-piece big band. Co-presented by Belong\u00f3. The exhibition extends throughout the entire Garden with horticultural displays, installations, artworks, a giant rabbit, a glass house, and many splendorous gardens. In association with McCarter Theatre Center, New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) presents a unique showcasing of the internationally acclaimed artist: Brazilian guitarist Yamandu Costa at NJPAC, 1 Center Street, Newark-NJ on Saturday, June 8 at 8 pm. Yamandu Costa is widely considered one of the greatest guitarists in the world today. He is a virtuoso 7-string guitar player with impressive skill and overwhelming passion for his music. Born to a musical family in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, he played his first major concert at age 17 in S\u00e3o Paulo and quickly gained international fame for his incredible talent. Yamandu is credited with reviving Brazilian guitar music.<\/p>\n

A Latin GRAMMY winner for Best Instrumental Album, Costa has collaborated with Bobby McFerrin, Richard Galliano, Doug de Vries, Gilberto Gil, Toquinho, Jo\u00e3o Bosco, Ney Matogrosso, Marisa Monte, Renato Borghetti and more. He has also been a featured soloist with prestigious symphony orchestras worldwide.
