As part of the 50th Newark Black Film Festival, the Brazilian film “Toll”, nominated for 6 Grande Othelo Awards, will be screened on Friday, July 12. The event kicks off at 8:30pm with a Live Music Performance by rising Rap\/Trap star Bamia RZ, an Afro-Brazilian musician who had performed at Brazilian Day events in the Tri-State area and had collaborated with Mano Brown, Felipe Ret, Hungria and Marcelo D2.<\/p>\n

A sensation at Toronto, Guadalajara, San Sebastian and Rome Film Festivals, “Toll” will screen at 9pm followed by a special talk with visual artist and educator Tad\u00e1sk\u00eda, (pict.) the groundbreaking trans Black visionary who currently has a solo exhibition at MoMA. The event is curated by Roger Costa who’ll also serve as host. The Newark Black Film Festival runs July 10-14. Tickets $10. The annual free Summer program at Lincoln Center continues throughout August with exciting shows. The Summer for the City program hosts musical performances, film screenings and disco parties. On Wednesday July 17, at 8pm, the stage will be taken by a trio of emerging musicians hailing from Bahia, Brazil. In association with Brasil SummerFest, the Gilsons, the Brazilian Award Winning trio formed by Francisco, Jo\u00e3o, and Jos\u00e9 Gil, respectively sons and grandson of Brazilian legend Gilberto Gil. They will perform some of their hits, including songs form the Grammy nominated album “Varias Queixas”. Free.
