Winner of four César Awards, this is director Boris Lojkine’s third and most acclaimed, awarded and accomplished film. Influenced by the gripping aesthetic of realism, the film presents an accurate and deeply humane look on the struggle and experiences of the food-delivery working-class, while casting awareness on the urgency for humanitarian aid and compassion. Structured in the span of 48 hours, the director injects tension into the narrative creating a clock-ticking situation where our protagonist is constantly in confrontations and peril. A masterly crafted and fast paced blend of suspense, drama and human politics, it’s among the best films of the year.

(Kino Lorber. 8/1. Sometimes it can turn the joy into nightmares and examinations on resentment, guilt and missed opportunities. As two sisters reunite and gather their respective families at their childhood estate to celebrate a birthday, things seem harmonious at first, guests arriving, food being prepared, a very welcoming atmosphere.

As Karen (a top-notch performance by Maren Eggert) steps in to greet her younger sister Jule (Britta Hammelstein) that sense of peace is rapidly shifted into uncomfortable zones, family conflicts, unsolved matters from past and present, and a tumultuous relationship between parents and children.

After becoming one of the most prominent Swiss filmmakers-duo with “The Strange Little Cat” and “The Girl and the Spider”, the Zürcher brothers returns with another complex and unconventional take on family dimensions. This time around Ramon Zürcher signs in as the director and screenwriter while Silvan Zürcher produces the film.

A sensation at Locarno and winner of the Best Fim Award at Hamburg Film Festival, it is an intense, enigmatic and harrowing tale of family disruptions.

(Film Movement. 8/1.
