The longest-running Brazilian film festival on the East Coast returns to New York for its 18th<\/sup> edition. The Inffinito Brazilian Film Festival kicks off its 2025 celebration on August 29th<\/sup> in New York and then continues in Miami and other Florida cities. Thomas Jeferson Park in East Harlem will host the free outdoor screening of \u201cBrasiliana: O Musical Negro Que Apresentou o Brasil Ao Mundo\u201d documentary directed by Joel Zito Araujo on Friday, August 29.<\/p>\n

Then, on Sunday, August 31 the Festival moves to Central Park\u2019s Summer Stage with free concerts by rising pop star IZA and the dynamic veteran Afro-Bahian group Il\u00ea Aiy\u00ea. The event kicks off at 5pm with rapper Evandro Fioti, the screening of two shorts \u201cUma Menina, Um Rio\u201d and \u201cFantasma Neon\u201d, followed by Il\u00ea Aiy\u00ea and then IZA. Free. An inspiring young artist who experienced war and transformed national poetry in songs of hope and inspiration for Ukraine, Artem Pivovarov is getting ready for a US\/Canada tour that will bring his music to New York City audiences among other cities. In 2021, Artem launched “Your Poems, My Notes” \u2014 a project that turns the words of famous Ukrainian poets like Taras Shevchenko and Lesya Ukrainka into modern songs. It’s his way of keeping Ukrainian culture alive for a new generation.<\/p>\n

Named “Clarinetist of the Year” by the Jazz Journalists Association every year since 2007 and a perennial favorite in DownBeat’s critics and readers polls, Cohen and her vibrant quartet perform an evening of music rich with swing, Brazilian rhythms, and adventurous improvisation. The annual remembrance ceremony \u201cTable of Silence Project 9\/11\u201d takes place on September 11 at Josie Robertson Plaza. Presented by Lincoln Center in collaboration with Buglisi Dance Theatre. An annual, free public performance ritual and call to action for peace, Table of Silence Project 9\/11 was conceived and choreographed by Jacqulyn Buglisi in 2011 to commemorate the loss of life and honor the bravery of all individuals affected by acts of terror, war, and oppression of freedom.
