The Latino-set indie comedy “Baja” comes to theaters this Friday, April 13th, via Prankster Entertainment.
Four millennials gather for a road trip to Baja, just to relax during Christmas break, but also to seek the realization of their most inner ambitions, different perspectives, confusions and conflicts, smartly depicted by director Tony Vidal. As the film introduces its four characters, Bryan, the submissive wealthy son, Todd, an out-of-control hustler, Jessica the uninspired artist/filmmaker, and Lisa, the alienated singer who longs her father, the director introduces relevant topics and issues related to this generation’s compulsive quest for fulfillment, perfection and identity with accurate and precise good humor.
They get into all sorts of trouble along the way, crossing paths with dangerous thugs, Cartel folks, abandoned hookers, runaway immigrants, and mystical figures, while trying to avoid a bounty hunter hired to capture them. The entire cast give fabulously enthusiastic performances, developing their characters with sophisticated humor, as the screenplay focuses on their struggle to pull themselves together and find accomplishment: Bryan needs to find confidence and freedom from his parents, Todd is a risky gambler who gets everyone in trouble, Jessica feels insecure and must find the right subject for a great film, and finally, Lisa, an enchanting girl who is seen by the locals as the re-incarnation of a beloved singer while seeking to re-connect with her estranged father. Filled with lively colors and music, as well as gloriously shot by cinematographer Jorge Roman, “Baja” is a fun ride for adults and teens, a magical, hilarious, and accomplished observation on the strength of family, identity and the pleasures/conflicts of being young in modern days.
