Iconic Singer Elis Regina to be Honored at the 5th New York Brazilian Film Series with Music and Film

New York- Considered the greatest Brazilian female singer ever, Elis Regina will be honored at the upcoming 5th New York Brazilian Film Series featuring the Special Screening of ELIS & ME, a new cinematic experience devoted to the artist who paved the way for MPB. This year marks the 81st anniversary of her birth, and even after more than 40 years since her death, her legacy continues to inspire and influence. 
The new docu-drama directed by Andre Bushatsky takes a different path, offering an intimate and personal look into the motherhood size of the star, seen through insightful conversations with her son, the music producer Joao Marcelo Boscolli, as well as his siblings, music partners and relatives. Taking place on Sunday, May 3rd the event coincidentally celebrates motherhood just a week before Mother’s Day with a special screening that celebrates both Brazilian culture and through a narrative that honors motherhood, caring love and unconditional determination. Director Andre Bushatsky will be present for a special intro and Q&A.
Now in its 5th edition, the New York Brazilian Film Series is a multi-cultural celebration showcasing Brazilian/American culture through Film, Music, Dance, Literature and Arts, promising a sample of Brazilian culture and rhythms featuring two distinguished music performances, art show, literature talk, Samba show and short film.
Singer Barbara Adyla and band will open the event with a Tribute to Elis Regina, blending  Jazz, Bossa and MPB. Following, dancer and mixed media artist Bruno da Silva will present his short film, a 3-minute dance project entitled “Aguas”. Writer and Children’s author Beti Rozen will launch a new book while preparing for her next tour across the country, Drumming ensemble female group BATALA NY will perform live on stage as well closing the evening with a Bahia-style, Afro-Afoxe musical immersion.
The NYBFS has previously screened “Kobra- Self Portrait”, “Belchior- Just A Wild Heart”, “Luiz Melodia- Within the Heart of Brazil” and “Milton Bituca Nascimento”.
“Elis and Me” is 82 minutes long and will be screened as a Special Presentation. NBC/Universal will officially release it at a later date.
Sunday, May 3rd at Cinema Village, 22 East 12th Street, between 5th Ave and University Pl, Manhattan. The event starts at 4:50pm with a complimentary Welcome drink.
Showtime is 5pm.
