“I’M SO EXCITED” ***

Throughout his entire career, brilliant and unique Spanish filmmaker Pedro Almodovar, has created eccentric, fascinating and unusual characters, practicing his most personal attribute and characteristic: his originality. His movies don’t really belong to a specific genre, mostly satires of society’s behaviors but his name is enough to carry its content and he gained the status that his name became an adjective, or simply describe the work as a ‘Film by Almodovar’.

That said, and aware of the personalities he’s created, imagine what happens when a bunch of these characters, literally on a verge of a breakdown are gathered and trapped inside an airplane stuck in the air with technical malfunction, running in circles, while they wait for a spot to land safely. In Almodovar’s colorful, glittering and debauchee world, everything is unexpected and anything is possible. He sarcastically alerts in the opening credits, that his new comedy is a ‘fiction’, and even though he said he didn’t intend to discuss any social matter, specially now, with Spain’s economic crisis, evidently he uses some metaphors and the distinct reaction of the passengers aboard the plane, to express his social responsibilities to his country. The film is a hilarious homage to the pop culture of the 80’s personified on the three flight attendants whom are responsible for all the excitement aboard. Among them, two pilots in a macho crisis, and the first class passengers, an actor ladies’ man who’s afraid his girlfriend is attempting a suicide, a mysterious woman who runs a prostitution ring, a financier escaping from the authorities due to his corruptions, a father looking for his missing daughter, a young couple newly-wed, a professional killer and a virgin psychic, will create awkwardness, excitement and delirious situations when the occasion opens space for them to express their dilemmas, fears and most secret desires. When the stewards prepare a cocktail mixed with drugs, the passengers start hallucinating and provoking their instincts, that goes from a musical number to an orgiastic symptom.
