The beloved dance company Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater continues to enchant audiences with their amazing annual Holiday season at New York City Center, 130 West 56th Street. For this special occasion, the company performs some of Ailey’s most iconic works including “Night Creature”, “The River” and the essential “Revelations”, as well as the World Premiere of Kyle Abraham’s energized, sexy and jazz style “Are You in your Feelings?” and Jamar Roberts “In A Sentimental Mood”, and others. Two iconic R&B/soul figures will join the stage of NJPAC, 1 Center Street, Newark, for a special New Years night on January 13th. The former “The Wiz” breakthrough star and multiple Grammy winner singer and songwriter Stephanie Mills will grace fans with her sumptuous voice and stage presence, sharing the spectacle with the incredible veteran band The Whispers, one of the most active R&B supergroups, performing to sold-out shows for over 40 years. The work of late Polish director Krzysztof Kieslowski will be celebrated this season at Momi, 36-01 35th Avenue, Astoria, Queens. As part of the annual film series “See It Big! Extended Cuts” the museum will screen two of Kieslowski’s most admired films, “A Short Film About Killing” and “A Short Film About Love”, both extracted from his acclaimed 10-piece masterpiece “Dekalog”. The Museum of Modern Arts, 11 West 53rd Street has just opened its new film-based exhibition. “Crafting Pinocchio” gathers six large-scale film sets used to create Guillermo Del Toro’s latest project “Pinocchio”, his first animated film, now playing on NetFlix, as well as drawings, video installations, sketches and puppets. On view on the 2nd floor, the exhibition showcases the intense, meticulous and patient work of animators in the stop-motion field, revealing the creative process and the manipulation of the puppets. It extends through the 1st floor with a gigantic replic of Pinocchio hanging on the ceiling, and posters celebrating Del Toro’s career on the ground floor. Thru April 2023. INFO: www.MoMA.org

Fado star Mariza has just announced a special program to be held at the historic The Town Hall, 123 West 43rd Street, Times Square. A great idea for a Holiday gift, tickets are now on sale for the collaborative shows scheduled for April 14, 15, 21 and 22, 2023. She will be joined by Brazilian revolutionary rock star Ney Matogrosso, Angolan pop/soul singer Matias Damaso, the Cesaria Evora Orchestra, and a solo show accompanied by her amazing band formed of international musicians, including Brazilian drummer and guitarist.
