Gifted with inventive technique of hip hop and street dance, Artistic Director and pioneer artist Rennie Harris has been an iconic dance stylist for the past 30 years. Along with his phenomenal company Puremovement, comes the re-staging of “Rennie Harris presents: Rome & Jewels”, a captivating, thrilling and energized African-Diasporan modern take on the Shakespeare classic, performing at The Joyce, 175 8th Avenue, February 7-12. Located at 680 Park Avenue, Americas Society has just opened the first US solo exhibition on the celebrated carioca artist who passed in 1989, “Bispo do Rosario: All Existing Materials on Earth”. Known for the odd fact that all his work was made in a psychiatric institution where he lived most of his life, Bispo crafted inspiring works using wood, foam, plastic, metal, fiber and others. Under the artistic direction of Bradley Shelver, The Joffrey Ballet Concert Group will perform a special program with new works at Ailey Theater, 405 West 55 Street, February 16-18, at 7:30pm. The Museum of Modern Arts, 11 West 53rd Street has just added new masterworks to its ongoing Collections 1940’s-1970’s: drawings at Calligraphic Abstractions including Dorothy Dehner’s curious “Encounter” and Osawa Gakyu’s surreal “The Deep Pool”. MoMA also kicked off the cold season with the return of Free UNIQLO NYC Friday Nights offering visitors free access to the Museum and the Movie Theaters. For lovers of classics, the Film department starts today at 7pm a comprehensive retrospective on Italian legend Claudia Cardinale with the participation of her daughter to introduce “Bebo’s Girl”. An intense psychological thriller addressing greedy journalism and gun violence in schools, the thriller “Line of Fire” will be released on VOD and digital next Tuesday, February 7 via VMI Releasing. It tells the story of a police officer who fails to shoot a terrorist during a tragedy at a local school and is pushed to her limits by a reckless journalist. Nominated for Best Indie Feature at the 2022 Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts.
