Capturing the importance and glamour of Korean traditions and adding contemporary elements of dance, music, art and fashion, Sejong Center’s “One Dance” will offer audiences a dazzling and unique experience during their stay at Lincoln Center’s David Koch Theater. Part of the Korean Arts Week, it brings 39 high skilled dancers from Seoul Metropolitan Dance Theatre, performing a reimagination of the royal ceremonial dance, honoring centuries of Korean culture and traditions. The always outrageous and multi-faceted actor and comedian Marlon Wayans brings his powerhouse comic skills to NJPAC, 1 Center Street, in Newark, on August 11th with two sets, at 7pm and 9:30pm. Wayans rose to fame from TV to the Big Screen, appearing in some of the hottest and most popular comedies since the 90’s. Born in a family of natural artists with a strong vein for comedy, Wayans can be seen in the NetFlix special Woke-ish, and the acclaimed Michael Jordan’s vehicle “Air” on Amazon. As part of Brasil SummerFest in partnership with Cinema Tropical, Momi (Astoria, Queens) will screen the timely documentary “Narcissus Off Duty” (“Narciso em Ferias”) from duo Ricardo Calil and Renato Terra. The film chronicles the dark experience of Brazilian singer and composer Caetano Veloso with exile during the dictatorship regime and is produced by Walter Salles. To celebrate the opening night of the long running Newark Black Film Festival, now in its 49th year, The Newark Museum of Art, 49 Washington Street, will host a Brazilian dancing party followed by the screening of “Medida Provisoria”, the racially-charged dramedy directed by Lazaro Ramos. The lineup includes DJ Luciano Julusi, renowned percussionist Marivaldo dos Santos who created a special performance for the occasion, and Dance Theatre of Harlem’s star Ingrid Silva for a special talk session. The diversity and extraordinary work of American painter Georgia O’Keeffe can be seen at MoMA (11 West 53rd Street) through August 12. Beautiful and inspiring compositions on watercolor, pastel, charcoal, pencil and the famous flower paintings are displayed and marvelously organized at this exhibition on the 3rd Floor. Gathering material from her experimentation with abstract forms, organic landscapes and unusual lines, it shows her commitment and devotion to the art, while providing new dimensions to her work. Continuing the Rite of Summer musical series with prestigious concerts, Governors Island will shine the summer skies with Irish ensem­ble Dublin Gui­tar Quar­tet. They will per­form a pro­gram fea­tur­ing works by Bryce Dess­ner, Marc Mel­lits, Woj­ciech Kilar, Gyor­gy Ligeti and Philip Glass. The summer season at SummerStage Central Park (entrance on East 72nd street and 5th Avenue) continues to highlight the best in contemporary world music, and the next few days are no different. Colombian super star Juanes takes the stage on Wednesday July 12, as part of the Latin Alternative Music Conference, which also features Conexion Divina. On Thursday, July 13, make way for Bastille Day, a French-speaking celebration featuring Joachim Garraud & Marie Berson, Benabar and Adele Castillon. And on Saturday, July 15, there’s more Latino rhythms with a homage to the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop led by Argentinian rapper Trueno, the acid beats of Puerto Rican’s major queer voice Villano Antillano and Colombian duo Dawer and Damper.
