The Fini Dance Festival retunrs to Ailey Theater (405 West 55th Street) for its annual celebration of dance and fashion. Founded by Antonio Fini, the Festival will host its 14th season next Saturday, August 31st at 8pm. Hosted by the charming Tabata Caldironi of Milan the event features performances from outstanding companies selected from the US and Italy and will also present the Italian International Dance Awards, including honors to Ornelia Fado with a Lifetime Achievement Award and others.

Performances include Fini Dance Intensive Summer Students, Davide Accossato (Turin Tap Festival) and Sofia Berto and Nikita Perotti stars of Italy’s Dancing with the Stars, Jennifer Muller/The Works, Jillian Pizzi, soloist with Staten Island Ballet, and other guests. Known as the “Empress of Soul”, exuberant singer Gladys Knight returns to Newark’s NJPAC (1 Center Street) for another round of sophisticated music. Her enchantingly strong and deeply penetrating voice delivers smooth, moving tunes such as “Midnight Train to Georgia” “I Heard it Through the Grapevine” “If I Were Your Woman” like nobody else. During this show, she will share some of her most incredible stories spanning more than 50 years in the industry, her big wins at the Grammys, and surprises reinforcing her popular diva status. Created by Cabo Verde-born, Newark-based artist Lidiane Francisco, “Healing through the Arts” is a free and open to all families event taking place at Lincoln Park in Newark which the objective is to bring together men, women, and children from different cultural backgrounds. Featuring creative activities and community interactivity, the program offers directions to create healthier communication, empathy and togetherness while reducing anxiety, stress, depression, postpartum depression, and other issues. They will also provide community resources and technical instruction on various art techniques and ways to apply these skills to manage daily pressures and depressive symptoms.

Through an afternoon of engagement with professional Artists, Social Workers, Health Educators and other service providers, the community will have the opportunity to share, learn, express, realize and receive the next actions needed to overcome unconscious past or present traumas, and open new doors to a better quality of life. Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month, Fiesta Latina returns to The Newark Museum of Art, 49 Washington Street, on Saturday, September 28 from 12pm till 5pm. Free and open to all families, the event will feature music, dance, parades, exhibitions and vendors. Many activities will keep children and adults alike entertained and immersed into the vibrant cultures of Latin American. Performances include DJ VidaLibre, Dance and musical performance by female group Chicas Mal and Colombian Cumbia by Viva Vallenato Cumbia Band and many more.
