Representing the excellence of British ballet and contemporary dance, London City Ballet will present four US Premieres as The Joyce Theater, (located at 175 Eighth Avenue, Manhattan) kicks off its new season on September 17. Revisiting the past and embracing the tendencies of the future, the program includes Award-winning choreographer Arielle Smith’s “Five Dances” a magical and celebratory new work, Liam Scarlett’s “Consolations & Liebestraum” an emotionally-charged piece accompanied by a live music performance of Liszt’s piano concerto, Ashley Page’s luminous “Larina Waltz” danced to Tchaikovsky’s classics and the intimate biblical look “Eve” by Christopher Marney. Presented by Film at Lincoln Center in collaboration with Cinema Tropical and the Consulate General of Brazil in NY, “Isso é Brasil: Cinema According to L.C. Barreto Productions” is a 13-film retrospective featuring some irresistible classics such as “Barren Lives”, “Entranced Earth” and of course, “Dona Flor and Her Two Husbands”. Running September 6-15 the series presents the Cinematic world of the Barretos clan and their influential power in the industry. Final weeks to discover the inspiring drawings of Brazilian artist Tadaskia’s debut solo show at MoMA(11 West 53rd Street). The only artist to ever draw at the Museum’s walls, the exhibition is on view thru October 14 on the First Floor’s Gallery, next to MoMA’s shop. “Projects: Tadáskía” features her enigmatic loose book, “ave preta mística/mystical black bird” which hangs around the gallery, drawings, sculptures and others, presenting her unique aesthetic, mostly inspired by her identity and cultural heritage.
