Considered one of the most innovative companies in the world, Paul Taylor Dance Company returns to The Joyce Theater (175 Eighth Avenue) with two landmarks of their repertory, not seen for almost half a century. Artistic Director Michael Novak reconstructs Taylor’s visionary dances in two unique programs that include the playful “Tablet”, the faith-fueled “Churchyard”, the abstract “Polaris”, “Cloven Kingdom” with its sharp social commentary and the 50th anniversary of “Esplanade”. Master comedian Earthquake returns to Newark for his annual Father’s Day All-Star Comedy show at NJPAC, 1 Center Street. This year’s program features the sensational DeRay Davis (Netflix’s How to Act Black and VH1’s Hip Hop Squares, Barbershop), the hysterically funny (Wild N’ Out, Guy Court and The Freestyle Funny Comedy Show), and B. Honoring Pride Month, the iconic Quad Cinema (34 West 13th Street, Manhattan) presents “Pride On Film”, the annual showcase of essential and uncensored queer cinema. Now in its 5th anniversary, the series features seven classics in 35mm, including tributes to Rainer Werner Fassbinder and Gus Van Sant. Opening selection is the provocative, Oscar-nominated drama “Sunday Bloody Sunday” (pictured) which will screen for a weeklong and features a special introduction by actor/filmmaker Elsie Fisher at selected screenings. Now on view through September 27, 2025, the Museum of Modern Arts, 11 West 53rd Street presents “Hilma af Klint: What Stands Behind the Flowers”, an exhibition showcasing Nature Studies, containing 46 botanical drawings by Swedish artist Hilma af Klint (1862–1944). Exploring the artist’s experiments and relationship with the natural world, the works here were conceived between the spring and summer of 1919 and 1920. “The Nature Studies” portfolio introduces to modern viewers the wonders of Sweden’s flora and showcases the artist’s passionate botanical vision.
